What is a web proxy?

A web proxy is a server that fetches a web page for you and returns it through your browser. Instead of your device asking youtube.com directly, your browser asks anyproxy.site, and we ask YouTube on your behalf. The destination sees our server, not you. Your local network sees anyproxy.site, not the site you opened.

A web proxy is not a VPN. A VPN routes every app on your device through an encrypted tunnel and needs software installed. A web proxy routes one browser tab and needs nothing. Different tool, smaller job — the right one when you need one site, on a locked laptop, right now.

01What is a proxy server?
A proxy server is a computer that fetches web pages on your behalf and returns them to your browser. Your device asks the proxy, the proxy asks the destination site, and the page comes back through the proxy. AnyProxy is a free web proxy that runs in your browser tab.
02What does proxy mean?
A proxy is a stand-in — a server that acts on your behalf. On the web, it makes the request for a page instead of your device, and hands the response back to your browser. The destination site sees the proxy, not you.
03Is AnyProxy related to the anyproxy npm package?
No. AnyProxy (anyproxy.site) is a free browser-based web proxy. The open-source anyproxy npm package from Alibaba is an unrelated developer tool for intercepting HTTP traffic.
04How is a web proxy different from a VPN?
A VPN routes your whole device and needs an app. AnyProxy routes one tab and needs nothing installed. Different tool, smaller job — the right one when you need one site, on a locked laptop, right now.
05Do you keep logs?
AnyProxy processes destination requests and may retain operational records, including destination and session information. See our privacy policy for data handling and deletion requests.
06Does a proxy hide my IP?
The destination site sees the proxy IP, not yours. Your local network still sees you connecting to us over an encrypted link — it just cannot see what sites you open through it.
07Is it safe?
AnyProxy can retain destination and session records. Compare operator data practices before choosing a proxy; read the current privacy policy rather than relying on a no-logs label.
08Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It is a web page, so any modern browser on Android or iOS works with no install.

09Can I use AnyProxy on a managed Chromebook?
Yes. Managed Chromebook accounts restrict extension installs, and AnyProxy runs entirely in a browser tab with nothing to install — open anyproxy.site in Chrome and paste a URL. Your organisation's acceptable-use policy still applies; check it before use.

10What sites work?
Many public pages work. In our 15 Oct 2026 tests YouTube videos, Wikipedia, Telegram channel previews and Poki games worked; Google search showed a captcha, and Instagram and X were limited without a login. Reddit refused our servers on 15 Oct but loaded normally in every region in a 22 Oct 2026 re-test. Subscription streaming (Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video) is not supported: it needs an account and enforces region and licence checks.

12Why do other proxies get stuck on Cloudflare's "Just a moment…" page?
Many sites sit behind a Cloudflare check, and that check is tied to the site's own address. A web proxy shows the site under a different address, so the check never finishes, however many times you click the box. AnyProxy completes the check for you: the first person to open a site waits a few seconds, and everyone after that gets the page at once. A few sites block all datacenter traffic outright; no web proxy opens those.

14How fast is it?
It depends on how far you are from the region. Measured from India on 15 Oct 2026, a Wikipedia page loaded in 1.41 s through Singapore against 1.15 s direct. The region picker shows a live ping for each region.
15Is a web proxy legal?
In most countries a proxy is ordinary web infrastructure. What you do through it is still governed by local law and the terms of the site you open.
