YouTube is not blocked in Thailand: OONI measurements from 15 July to 15 October 2026 show 5,473 of 5,510 tests of www.youtube.com loading normally, with no confirmed blocks. Thailand blocked the whole site once, from 4 April to 31 August 2007, over videos mocking the King; since then the government has asked Google to restrict individual videos in Thailand instead. A video that says it is unavailable in your country is that kind of restriction, not a block on YouTube.

Measured inside Thailand · OONI
5,510 OONI tests of www.youtube.com from 2026-07-15 to 2026-10-15: 5,473 loaded normally, 13 anomalies (not proof of blocking), 24 test failures.
99.3% of 5,510 OONI tests from Thai networks loaded YouTube normally (15 Jul–15 Oct 2026), 0 confirmed blocks and only 13 anomalies across AIS Fibre, 3BB, True and TOT. That is the profile of an unblocked site.
Retrieved 2026-10-15. Volunteers run OONI Probe on their own networks; an anomaly is a signal, not proof. Open these measurements on OONI Explorer.
What we tested through AnyProxy
Tested from our proxy exits, not from a Thailand ISP. Results can change when YouTube changes.
How to unblock from Thailand
A phone on mobile data, a college PC, a managed browser — anything that runs Chrome, Safari, or Firefox works from Thailand.
Singapore is closest for most Thailand networks. Switch if your ISP filters the first hop.
YouTube is fetched from outside your network and opens in this tab. Some features may not work; see tests on this page.
Deep dive · YouTube in Thailand specifically
4 Apr 2007: Thailand's ICT Ministry blocks YouTube after Google declines to remove a clip ridiculing King Bhumibol. May 2007: Google agrees to remove four videos but refuses two it called political rather than insulting to the King. 31 Aug 2007: Ban lifted after YouTube agrees to block clips that break Thai law for Thai viewers and to give ISPs a way to block sensitive videos. 2011: Google's Transparency Report shows the Thai Ministry of Information asked for 374 YouTube videos to be taken down for allegedly insulting the monarchy. 24 Sep 2020: Thailand files its first Computer Crime Act complaints against Facebook and Twitter for missing court takedown deadlines; no action against Google because it removed all the YouTube videos in the order the night before. Jul–Oct 2026: OONI: 5,473 of 5,510 tests of www.youtube.com from Thailand load normally; 0 confirmed blocks.
Since 2007 Thailand restricts individual YouTube videos, not the site. Authorities obtain court orders or send requests under the Computer Crime Act and lèse-majesté law; Google then restricts the video for viewers in Thailand (geo-blocking) or removes it (Global Voices 2012; Malay Mail/Reuters 2020). Because the restriction is applied by YouTube based on the viewer's country, a proxy outside Thailand changes what YouTube sees — but viewing content that is illegal in Thailand remains illegal for you.
In our tests through AnyProxy on 15 October 2026, these worked: Search YouTube in Thai for ข่าว (news); Play a video. Details and screenshots are below.
DNS snapshot
We scanned 15 public DNS resolvers worldwide for youtube.com. Below is what each resolver returned. This shows how the domain resolves from public resolvers outside your network, not what your ISP returns.
Snapshot from DomainScan on 2026-10-05. A resolver that gave no answer is not proof of blocking in Thailand; see the measurements above for in-country evidence.

Legal in Thailand?
Web proxy use is legal in Thailand. The Computer Crime Act still applies to content you access.
Nothing on this page constitutes legal advice. If your workplace policy prohibits proxies specifically, that policy still applies; the fact that the tool is legal does not override an agreement you signed with a network operator.
