A proxy page failing to load is one of the more frustrating troubleshooting sessions on the web — nothing fails cleanly, everything just spins or shows a vague error. This guide covers the eight most common causes in order of likelihood, so you fix the fast ones first.
Fix 1 — Switch region
Most “proxy not loading” errors are region-specific. Our nearest region for your location may be under peak load; a different region 200 ms further away often loads instantly. Try:
- Change the region picker on any page.
- If Frankfurt fails, try Singapore.
- If Singapore fails, try Virginia.
- On Pro, try London, Tokyo, or São Paulo.
Fixes: ~50% of complaints. Time: 15 seconds.
Fix 2 — Test on mobile data
Open the same URL from your phone’s cellular connection, not the Wi-Fi you are on. If it loads on cellular, the problem is your current Wi-Fi network — either the network blocks anyproxy.site, or the network’s DNS is refusing our domain.
Fixes: ~15% of complaints. Time: 30 seconds.
Fix 3 — Clear cookies for anyproxy.site
Sometimes a stale session cookie confuses the proxy’s region assignment. Clear cookies for anyproxy.site specifically:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy → Cookies → See all site data → search anyproxy → Remove.
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data → search anyproxy → Remove.
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies → Manage Data → search anyproxy → Remove.
Then reload. Fixes: ~10% of complaints.
Fix 4 — Try a different browser
If AnyProxy works in one browser and not another on the same device, something in the failing browser is interfering — an extension, an outdated version, a stuck service worker. Try:
- Chrome ↔ Firefox / Edge ↔ Safari.
- Or open in incognito / private mode, which disables most extensions.
Fixes: ~8% of complaints.
Fix 5 — Check the destination site is actually up
The proxy may be fine but the site you asked for is down. Cross-check the destination on a normal browser tab (if you can reach it from any network) or on downdetector.com. If the destination is down for everyone, no proxy will help.
Fixes: ~5% of complaints.
Fix 6 — Disable browser extensions
Ad blockers, privacy extensions, script blockers, and VPN extensions can all interfere with proxied pages. Some rewrite requests, others block third-party resources the proxy needs. Try incognito mode — if the proxy works there but not in your normal window, an extension is the culprit.
Fixes: ~5% of complaints.
Fix 7 — Wait 60 seconds and retry
Rare but real: a specific region occasionally has short-lived outages when we roll a config change or an upstream fails over. Wait a minute, retry. If it is a genuine outage, we usually detect and route around it in under a minute.
Fixes: ~4% of complaints.
Fix 8 — Corporate proxy avoidance category
If you are on a corporate network, your firewall may specifically categorise anyproxy.site as “proxy avoidance” and block it. Ways to confirm:
- Loads on mobile hotspot? → corporate network is blocking.
- Fails on every device on the corporate Wi-Fi? → same.
Workarounds:
- Ask your admin — you may have a legitimate use case that unblocks it.
- Use mobile data for that one page.
- If your workplace allows a VPN app, that routes around the domain-level block.
Fixes: ~3% of complaints. See also how to unblock a site at work.
When to stop debugging and contact support
