How to Unblock ChatGPT in Your Country (No VPN, Web Proxy 2026)

ChatGPT is region-restricted in Iran, China, Russia, and a growing list of countries. A web proxy loads ChatGPT in a browser tab from a supported region — no OpenAI account changes needed.

TL;DR

Open anyproxy.site, paste chat.openai.com, pick a region where ChatGPT is supported (Frankfurt, Singapore, Virginia all work). Sign in to your OpenAI account on the real chat.openai.com after it loads. Never enter your password on the proxy landing.

ChatGPT is region-restricted by OpenAI, and the restriction is enforced at OpenAI’s edge, not at your local network level. That means:

  • A VPN alone is not enough — you need OpenAI to see a supported-region IP.
  • A DNS change is useless — the block is not DNS-based.
  • A web proxy works because it makes OpenAI see the proxy region’s IP, not yours.

Here is the exact flow, plus what to expect after login.

Where ChatGPT is currently blocked

As of 2026:

  • Fully blocked by OpenAI: Iran, China, Belarus, Cuba, Syria, North Korea, and a shifting Russia policy.
  • Partially available: Egypt, UAE, Saudi Arabia — availability varies by ISP and moment.
  • Fully available: most of Europe, the Americas, East Asia excluding China, and increasingly Africa and South Asia.

The list changes as OpenAI expands. The /unblock/chatgpt/ page tracks status by country in a live grid.

The three-click flow

  1. Open anyproxy.site in any browser.
  2. Paste chat.openai.com or the full ChatGPT URL.
  3. Pick a supported region — Frankfurt, Singapore, or Virginia all work — and press Open.

ChatGPT loads in the same tab.

Where the password goes (and where it does not)

Read this before you sign in. ChatGPT loads inside the proxy tab as the real chat.openai.com page — with OpenAI branding, OpenAI URL, OpenAI login form.

Enter your OpenAI password only on that real ChatGPT login form, after it has loaded. Never on anyproxy.site itself. If a page prompts you for an OpenAI password before ChatGPT has visibly loaded, that is phishing.

After sign-in — what to expect

OpenAI’s account system will show a login from the proxy region’s IP. Common responses:

  • Email confirmation to your registered address — “new device / new location login”. Confirm.
  • 2FA challenge if you have it enabled — completes as normal.
  • Some accounts see a “verifying your access” spinner for a few seconds before ChatGPT opens — that is OpenAI doing an additional IP check.

ChatGPT Plus subscribers keep Plus access. GPT-4, browsing, and custom GPTs all work.

When ChatGPT loads but chats fail

Occasionally the proxy loads ChatGPT’s UI, you log in, but every chat message fails or times out. This is OpenAI running a stricter geographic check at the API layer than at the UI layer. Fix:

  • Switch to a different region. If Frankfurt fails, try Singapore. If Singapore fails, try Virginia.
  • Once you find a working region, stay on it for that session.

If all three main regions fail after login succeeds, sign out and try again on a Pro region (London, Tokyo, São Paulo) if you have Pro.

Signup vs sign-in — a difference

Signing in to an existing account through a proxy is straightforward. OpenAI has already verified your account and your phone number; new-location logins get a routine security check.

Signing up a new account through a proxy is harder. OpenAI requires a phone number for verification, and phones registered in blocked countries fail that step regardless of the IP you signed up from. If you are creating a new account, use a phone number from a supported country.

What about Claude, Gemini, and other AI tools?

The same pattern works. See:

Each has its own geographic restrictions and its own country-level status grid.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Where is ChatGPT actually blocked in 2026?
Fully blocked in Iran, China, Belarus, Cuba, Syria, North Korea, and Russia (partial). Partially available in Egypt, UAE, Saudi Arabia — some regions have intermittent access. Fully available in most of Europe, the Americas, and East Asia (except China).
Will my OpenAI account get banned for using a proxy?
OpenAI's usage policy allows access from any supported region. Using a proxy to reach a supported region is standard. Repeatedly signing in from a country OpenAI explicitly does not serve (via any means) is a different matter — check OpenAI's terms.
Does ChatGPT Plus work through the proxy?
Yes. If you already have a ChatGPT Plus subscription, log in through the proxy and Plus features work as normal — including GPT-4 access and browsing.
Can I sign up for a new OpenAI account through the proxy?
Yes, but OpenAI requires a phone number for signup. Use a phone number registered in a country where OpenAI serves, otherwise the signup may fail at the phone-verification step.
The proxy loads ChatGPT but chats fail after I sign in. Why?
OpenAI runs additional geographic checks at the API layer. If chats fail specifically, try a different region — Frankfurt, Singapore, or Virginia. One will usually work.
