Block status per site, nearest region, and step-by-step guide for every popular site people unblock from China. No install, no signup.

Almost every Western platform we track is blocked in China. In OONI tests run inside China from 15 July to 15 October 2026, Google loaded in 1.1% of 190 tests, YouTube in 3.0% of 2,890, ChatGPT in 2.6% of 193 and Wikipedia in 0.6% of 163. The failures look the same on China Telecom, China Unicom, China Mobile and the CERNET university network, because the filtering runs at the national gateways.

What we tested through AnyProxy
Tested from our proxy exits, not from a China network. A proxy does not change what your own network can see you connect to.
Blocked nationwide
Restricted or intermittent
No recorded national block
We have no source or measurement showing a nationwide block on these in China. That is not a test result: some may still fail on your network.
Background
The Great Firewall (GFW) makes China the most technically sophisticated censorship regime online. Google, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, X, WhatsApp, ChatGPT, and virtually all Western social platforms are blocked. Deep packet inspection is used at scale; new circumvention techniques are actively probed and blocked.
How the filtering works: The GFW combines DNS poisoning, IP blocking, keyword filtering, TLS SNI inspection, and active probing. Consumer VPNs frequently fail; obfuscated protocols work best.
Who decides: Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC). Sets internet content policy; the Great Firewall is enforced at the national backbone by the three state-owned carriers. Since April 2024 its orders also reach app stores.

Per-network enforcement
Network measurements: OONI Explorer for China (checked 2026-10-15). China rarely shows as 'confirmed blocked' in OONI because the firewall resets connections or poisons DNS instead of serving a block page. Read the success rate: under 6% for most sites we track.

The essentials
Law & policy
Users are responsible for compliance with local law. This page describes general filtering context; site availability varies by network.
Not legal advice. Workplace and managed-network policies may still prohibit proxy use even where the tool itself is lawful.
Billing
Free tier stays free. Pro ($4.99 a month or $39 a year) removes ads and adds servers in Tokyo and Los Angeles. Payment is handled by Creem, and the methods available in your country are shown at checkout.
Rendering
China-hosted pages render in the language they were served in. Proxying moves where the request comes from, not what it says — no translation layer.
