Can I unblock Netflix with a web proxy?

Short answer

Probably not for watching. netflix.com opened through AnyProxy on 15 Oct 2026 with Singapore prices, but playing needs an account, DRM and an address Netflix does not flag as a proxy. We have not tested playback.

In detail

Two different things are being asked here. Opening the Netflix website works: on 15 October 2026, netflix.com loaded through AnyProxy's Singapore server and showed the Singapore sign-up page, 'Starts at SGD 15.98', because Netflix judges your country from the address it sees. Watching is another matter, and we have not tested it, because playback needs a signed-in account and we never sign in with real accounts. Three things stand in the way. Netflix detects VPNs and proxies and has a help page for its own error, 'You seem to be using a VPN or proxy. Please turn off any of these services and try again.' AnyProxy's servers sit in cloud data centres, the kind of address such detection looks for. And video is protected by DRM (Widevine in Chrome, FairPlay on Apple devices), which only decrypts on a device path Netflix trusts. Disney+ behaved similarly in our tests: its site loaded the Singapore or German storefront depending on the region, and its Vietnam path returned 'page not found'. If you need Netflix abroad, the realistic routes are the official app on a plan valid where you are, or Netflix's own guidance for travel. What the Netflix site showed through AnyProxy

Through Singapore, Netflix served its Singapore sign-up page with Singapore dollar prices, so the region switch itself works. What we could not check is playback, which sits behind sign-in, DRM and Netflix's proxy detection. Netflix's help centre describes the proxy error message by name; that is the most likely result for any web proxy.
