Definition
A Cloudflare challenge is the 'Just a moment...' or 'Verifying...' screen a Cloudflare-protected site shows to check that a real browser is visiting before it serves the page.
Explanation
In depth
Cloudflare sits in front of a large share of the web as a reverse proxy, and site owners can tell it to check visitors first. You will meet three different things. A silent check runs scripts in your browser for a few seconds behind a spinner. A Turnstile widget ('Verifying...', sometimes with a 'Verify you are human' box) does the same with an optional click. The third is not a check at all. 'Sorry, you have been blocked' is a firewall rule the site owner set, often against whole datacenter networks, and nothing on your side can pass it. Challenges are hard for web proxies. The check runs inside a page served from the proxy's address and network rather than the site's, and most proxies simply relay it until it fails. In AnyProxy's 12 October 2026 grid of six Cloudflare-protected sites, CroxyProxy, BlockAway, Proxyium, 4everproxy and TrickyBird failed all six. AnyProxy loaded all six, because it completes the check on its servers before serving the page. It does not win every time. On 15 October 2026 Stack Overflow loaded through AnyProxy Singapore, but chatgpt.com stayed on 'Verifying...' and umingle.com returned Cloudflare's 'you have been blocked' page.
In practice
Cloudflare challenge in the real world
Three outcomes, captured through AnyProxy Singapore on 15 Oct 2026. stackoverflow.com, which sits behind a Cloudflare check, opened straight to its Newest Questions list. chatgpt.com stayed on a Cloudflare 'Verifying...' widget for 30 seconds, as it also did on 12 Oct in all three free regions. umingle.com showed 'Sorry, you have been blocked', a site-owner firewall rule rather than a challenge. For comparison, CroxyProxy got 'Performing security verification' then 'Unable to connect' on Stack Overflow on 12 Oct.
Cloudflare checks through AnyProxy, and one comparison
Open stackoverflow.com (Cloudflare-protected) through AnyProxy
Worked · SG exit · 2026-10-15
Stack Overflow's Newest Questions page loaded with no challenge left on screen; a cookie banner was showing.
Open chatgpt.com through AnyProxy
Did not work · SG exit · 2026-10-15
After 30 seconds the tab still showed the ChatGPT logo above a Cloudflare 'Verifying...' widget; the check never completed. Same result on us, sg and fr on 12 Oct 2026.
Open umingle.com through AnyProxy
Did not work · SG exit · 2026-10-15
Cloudflare 'Sorry, you have been blocked / You are unable to access umingle.com'. This is a firewall block set by the site owner, not a challenge, so there is nothing to solve. Same on us, sg and fr on 12 Oct 2026.
Comparison: stackoverflow.com through CroxyProxy (not AnyProxy)
Did not work · N/A exit · 2026-10-12
CroxyProxy showed 'Performing security verification' and then 'Unable to connect to the website'. From the 12 Oct 2026 grid (screenshots/cf-launch/RESULTS.md), where CroxyProxy, BlockAway, Proxyium, 4everproxy and TrickyBird scored 0 of 6 Cloudflare-protected sites.
Questions about Cloudflare challenge
Why does 'Verifying...' never finish through a proxy?
The check runs in a page delivered from the proxy's address and network, which Cloudflare often rejects. Reloading repeats the same failure. A proxy has to complete the check itself, and even then some sites, such as chatgpt.com, still refuse.
Is 'Sorry, you have been blocked' a challenge?
No. It is a firewall rule set by the site owner, often aimed at datacenter networks. No proxy region or retry gets past it; only a different kind of network might.
Does AnyProxy pass every Cloudflare check?
No. It loaded six of six test sites on 12 Oct 2026, but chatgpt.com stayed on 'Verifying...' and umingle.com was blocked outright on 15 Oct 2026.
