The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority regulates internet access in Pakistan and directs the national blocklist enforced through ISP-level DNS and DPI.
Explanation
PTA has ordered nationwide blocks of YouTube, TikTok, Wikipedia, and X at various points, sometimes for extended periods. The technical enforcement is centralised through the Internet Monitoring System (IMS) which uses DNS filtering and increasingly DPI. PTA has also warned that unregistered VPNs may be restricted, though the tools themselves remain lawful to use. Web proxies over HTTPS to mainstream domains are less commonly targeted than protocol-fingerprinted VPNs.
