Iran has blocked YouTube since 2006, Facebook and X since 2009, Telegram since 2018 and Instagram since 2022. The December 2024 review lifted only WhatsApp and Google Play, and after a three-month national blackout in 2026 even WhatsApp was left closed off.
What we tested through AnyProxy
Tested from our proxy exits, not from a Iran network. A proxy does not change what your own network can see you connect to.
Blocked nationwide
Restricted or intermittent
No recorded national block
We have no source or measurement showing a nationwide block on these in Iran. That is not a test result: some may still fail on your network.
Background
Iran maintains one of the most aggressive internet filtering regimes in the world. Instagram, X, YouTube, Facebook, Telegram and WhatsApp are blocked at the national level, while AI chat services such as ChatGPT load normally on Iranian networks. In 2026 the government cut international access for weeks at a time during protests and conflict.
How the filtering works: Iranian filtering combines DNS blocks, IP blocks, and DPI. Whitelisted "national internet" (SHOMA) is the goal of the state's network policy.
Who decides: Supreme Council of Cyberspace. Sets national filtering policy. Since August 2026, executive agencies can no longer block a platform on their own — new blocks must go to the president for approval.

Per-network enforcement
Network measurements: OONI Explorer for Iran (checked 2026-10-15). From 15 July to 15 October 2026, YouTube, Instagram, X, Facebook, Telegram, WhatsApp, Signal and BBC each loaded in under 6% of OONI tests from Iran, with thousands confirmed blocked. ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Google, Wikipedia and Al Jazeera loaded in over 93%.

The essentials
Law & policy
Users are responsible for compliance with local law. AnyProxy operates as an ordinary web service and makes no political claims.
Not legal advice. Workplace and managed-network policies may still prohibit proxy use even where the tool itself is lawful.
Billing
Free tier stays free. Pro ($4.99 a month or $39 a year) removes ads and adds servers in Tokyo and Los Angeles. Payment is handled by Creem, and the methods available in your country are shown at checkout.
Rendering
Iran-hosted pages render in the language they were served in. Proxying moves where the request comes from, not what it says — no translation layer.
