Every major social platform gets blocked somewhere — school Wi-Fi filters, corporate networks, country-level censorship, occasional court orders. This cornerstone covers what specifically blocks each of the ten most-proxied social platforms, whether the mobile app is an option (it is not, universally), and how the browser-version workaround handles the main features per platform.
The universal rule: the mobile app does not route through a browser proxy. Every social platform requires you to use the web version (instagram.com, tiktok.com, etc.) inside the proxied browser tab. The app cannot be proxied. This is a technical fact of web proxies, not a limitation of any specific service.
YouTube
Where it’s blocked: Iran (national since 2009), China (national via Great Firewall), Pakistan (periodic nationwide), school Wi-Fi worldwide, corporate networks worldwide.
How the block works: DNS + IP + DPI + TLS SNI on youtube.com and Google video CDN domains. On managed networks, category-based filtering under “video” or “streaming”.
Browser version works: feed, video playback (720p free / 1080p Pro), comments, subscriptions, playlists, search, live streams, sign-in.
Mobile app: does not route through browser proxy. Use youtube.com in mobile Chrome or Safari instead.

Where it’s blocked: Iran (national since 2022), China (national), corporate/school networks worldwide.
How the block works: Same layered filter stack as YouTube. Iranian ISPs implement additional pattern fingerprinting.
Browser version works: feed, Reels, Stories, web DMs, search, profile viewing, comments, likes. Small photo uploads work; long videos need Pro tier.
Mobile app: does not route through browser proxy.

TikTok
Where it’s blocked: India (national ban since 2020), Saudi Arabia (intermittent), Turkey (occasional), corporate/school networks.
How the block works: DNS + IP at ISP level. India’s ban is enforced by government order to ISPs and app stores.
Browser version works: feed, search, comments, following, profile, Live viewing.
Mobile app: the app itself is often uninstallable in blocked-country app stores. Use tiktok.com in the browser.

X (Twitter)
Where it’s blocked: Nigeria (was blocked 7 months in 2021), Iran, China, Russia (national since 2022), Pakistan (periodic), Turkey (occasional), corporate/school networks.
How the block works: DNS + IP + DPI on x.com and twitter.com plus Twitter CDN domains.
Browser version works: timeline, search, DM, posting, Spaces (browser-limited), video playback.
Mobile app: does not route through browser proxy.

Where it’s blocked: China (national), Iran (national), corporate/school networks.
How the block works: DNS + IP + DPI on facebook.com and Meta CDN. Content-category filtering on corporate networks.
Browser version works: feed, Messenger web (limited), Marketplace, groups, events, sign-in.
Mobile app: does not route through browser proxy. Messenger app also does not proxy.
Deep dive: unblock-Facebook with country grid.
Where it’s blocked: Iran, China, Indonesia (briefly during content disputes), corporate networks that categorise “forum” or “distraction”, school networks worldwide.
How the block works: DNS at ISP level, category-based on corporate.
Browser version works: feed, subreddits, posting, commenting, chat, image + video posts.
Mobile app: does not route through browser proxy.
Deep dive: unblock-Reddit with country grid.
Snapchat
Where it’s blocked: corporate networks worldwide (category “social”), some Middle Eastern countries during specific content disputes.
How the block works: DNS + IP on snapchat.com and Snap CDN.
Browser version works: web login is limited by Snap policy — the browser version has fewer features than the app. Some regions offer only “web viewer” mode.
Mobile app: primary Snapchat interface but does not route through browser proxy.
Deep dive: unblock-Snapchat.
Where it’s blocked: China (national), Iran (intermittent), corporate/school networks.
How the block works: DNS + IP on pinterest.com and Pinterest CDN.
Browser version works: feed, boards, pin creation, search, sign-in.
Mobile app: does not route through browser proxy.
Deep dive: unblock-Pinterest.
Discord
Where it’s blocked: China (national), Iran (national), Saudi Arabia (intermittent), UAE (occasional), corporate networks (category “gaming” or “chat”).
How the block works: DNS + IP + DPI on discord.com and Discord CDN. WebSocket connections are the key traffic pattern.
Browser version works: server chat, DM, voice channel (browser-limited), server discovery. Screen sharing may work if browser has camera/mic permission.
Mobile app: does not route through browser proxy.
Deep dive: unblock-Discord with country grid.
WhatsApp Web
Where it’s blocked: China (national since 2017), Iran (partial), UAE + Saudi Arabia (VoIP calls specifically blocked, messaging works).
How the block works: DPI on WhatsApp’s proprietary XMPP-derived protocol. IP blocking on Meta/WhatsApp server ranges.
Browser version works: requires QR-code pairing with the mobile app already installed. Chat, media, groups, sticker sharing all work. Voice/video calls through WhatsApp Web use WebRTC and often fail through browser proxy.
Mobile app: does not route through browser proxy. Critical caveat: install WhatsApp before entering China. See whatsapp-in-China.
Universal login safety pattern
Every social platform in this guide requires the same login safety practice:
- Open the destination URL through the proxy — wait for the real facebook.com, instagram.com, etc. to load with its own URL and branding.
- Enter your password only on that real destination page.
- Never enter your service password on anyproxy.site itself. If any page prompts for a service password before the destination has loaded, it is phishing.
- Expect a “new device / new location” security email or push notification to your registered contact on first login from the proxy region. Confirm it.
- Complete any 2FA challenge as normal.
See the log-in-through-a-proxy help guide for the full walkthrough with phishing signs to recognise.
Universal upload limitations
Every social platform behaves similarly on uploads through a proxy:
- Small photos and short videos: work on free tier of most proxies.
- Long videos and high-resolution uploads: may time out on free tier. Pro tier priority routing improves reliability.
- Live streaming (going Live yourself): requires stable browser WebRTC path which does not tunnel cleanly. Viewing others’ Live streams works.
- Camera / microphone permissions: managed devices may block these at the OS level regardless of proxy.
Which social platforms work best through a proxy
By reliability of core features through a browser proxy in 2026:
- YouTube — video playback is stable, feed loads cleanly, sign-in works.
- Instagram — Reels play, feed scrolls, DMs functional.
- TikTok — feed and search work; the app is the primary interface elsewhere but the web version is competent through a proxy.
- X (Twitter) — full functionality except for some video autoplay edge cases.
- Reddit — arguably the smoothest social experience through a proxy because Reddit’s web version is already the primary interface.
- WhatsApp Web — chat is reliable; calls are not.
- Discord — text and voice channels work; screen share is finicky.
- Facebook — works but the mobile-optimised web version is the smoothest.
- Pinterest — smooth for browsing; pin creation works.
- Snapchat — most limited browser version among the ten; the app is really the only full experience.
Country-specific interactions
Some social platforms have specific country dynamics that override the general pattern. For those, see the site×country pages:
- Instagram from Iran — 2.5 key events per view (highest conversion on our site)
- YouTube from Iran — 42 monthly views, longest-running block
- WhatsApp from China — 94.5s average engagement (highest on site)
- TikTok from Saudi Arabia — intermittent restrictions
- ChatGPT from Russia — OpenAI-side region policy
